Privacy Policy
Effective: 21 October 2026 · Last updated: 21 October 2026
In short
- Remembra has no accounts. Your events, contacts, photos and cards are stored on your phone, not on our servers.
- We use no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and we never sell your data.
- Some features send data off your phone, but only when you use them. Your optional Google Drive backup goes to your own Google account. Content downloads come from our servers.
- Questions or requests: privacy@remembra.app. We reply within one month.
1.Introduction#
Remembra helps you remember birthdays, anniversaries and the other days that matter. It also helps you send the people you love a card or a few kind words. Remembra is a brand of Emotiva.
This policy explains, as plainly as we can, what happens to your information when you use the Remembra app and visit our website. We have tried to describe exactly what the app does, including the parts most people never think about. If anything is unclear, please ask us.
2.Who is responsible for your data#
The controller of your personal data is Valentin Buriman, a sole trader trading as Remembra (“we”, “us”, “our”).
- Privacy and data requests: privacy@remembra.app
- Postal address:
3.What this policy covers#
This policy covers:
- the Remembra app for Android and iOS (“the app”), and
- the website remembra.app (“the website”).
It does not cover any other website, including remembra.co.uk, which will have its own policy. Nor does it cover the services of other companies that you choose to use alongside the app, such as Google, Apple or your messaging apps. Their own privacy policies apply to them.
Some features below exist only on Android; we say so where that is the case.
4.Data that stays on your device#
Remembra does not have accounts, and we do not run a database of our users. Everything below is stored only on your device, inside the app’s own storage, and we never receive it. Section 5 explains the exceptions: features that send data to your own Google account or to our servers.
4.1 Your events, cards and settings
- The events you add: names, dates (for example a date of birth or a wedding date), the event type, notes, and any phone number or email address you enter for the person.
- Photos, backgrounds, voice or video messages and reminder sounds you attach to events.
- Greeting cards you design and greeting messages you write or choose.
- Your settings, such as language, reminder times, styles and widget preferences.
- A random installation identifier the app creates for itself. Backups use it to recognise your own data when you restore. It is never sent to us.
4.2 Contacts (optional)
If you choose Import from contacts and allow access, the app reads your contacts on your device so that you can pick a person. It reads only the name, phone number and photo. Only the details of the person you pick are saved, together with your event. Your contact list is never uploaded to us. You can use Remembra without granting contacts access.
4.3 Photos, videos and audio
When you add a photo, the app uses your phone’s photo picker, so it sees only the items you select. Voice and video messages are recorded with your phone’s own recorder app and handed to Remembra. The app itself has no camera or microphone permission. These files stay on your device unless you include them in a backup or an export (see section 5).
4.4 Calendar (optional)
If you turn on calendar sync and allow calendar access, the app works with the calendars already on your phone, such as your Google Calendar on Android:
- it reads your list of calendars (their names, colours and the account they belong to, which is usually an email address) so that you can choose which ones to use;
- it reads the events of the calendars you choose, including titles, times, descriptions, repeat rules and reminder settings, to import them and to notice when they change, both while the app is open and in the background;
- it creates, updates and deletes Remembra’s own entries in the one calendar you select for that purpose, and nowhere else.
Your calendar provider (for example Google) may then sync those entries to its servers under its own policy. We do not receive your calendar data. Separately, you can import and export ICS calendar files; those files are read or written only where you choose.
4.5 Notifications, alarms and widgets
To remind you on time, the app asks to show notifications and to set exact alarms. It also restarts its reminders after your phone restarts. Notifications, and the home-screen widgets if you add them, show names, photos and dates from your events. Anyone who can see your screen may see them, so choose your widgets with that in mind.
4.6 Sending greetings
Remembra never sends a message by itself. When you choose to send a greeting, by tapping a button in the app or in a reminder notification, the app opens the messaging app you picked with the recipient and text already filled in. The supported apps are your SMS app, WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Telegram and Messenger. You review the message and press send yourself. From that point the messaging app’s own privacy policy applies. To help with pasting, the app may also copy the greeting text to your clipboard.
5.Data that leaves your device#
5.1 Content downloads from our servers
The app downloads templates, backgrounds, stickers, fonts, icons, sounds, wallpapers and greeting messages, and a small app-version file, from servers we operate. They are hosted in the United Kingdom by Hostinger. Some of these downloads happen when you open a library or the card studio. The greeting messages also refresh by themselves about once a week in the background.
Each request carries your IP address, which any internet connection reveals, and the item requested. Some requests also carry your language, so that you get messages and categories in it. Requests carry no account, name, email or device identifier, and no advertising ID. For some items we keep an anonymous download count (for example, “this background was downloaded 120 times”). The count contains no information about who downloaded the item.
5.2 The app-version check and in-app updates
Each time the app starts, it fetches a small app-version file from our servers. The file tells the app whether a newer version is available or required. The request carries no identifier beyond your IP address and the standard technical information every app request includes. On Android, the app also uses Google Play In-App Updates, which asks Google Play whether an update is available and lets you install it without leaving the app. Google handles that under its own privacy policy.
5.3 Server logs
Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, including IP addresses, for a limited period for security and to operate the service. We do not use these logs to identify or profile you, and we do not combine them with any other data.
5.4 Google Drive backup (optional, Android)
Automatic backup to Google Drive is off until you turn it on in Settings. When you turn it on, the app connects to your own Google account with Google’s sign-in. It asks only for access to a private, hidden app folder in your Drive (the “appDataFolder”). It cannot see your other Drive files. Then:
- it uploads a full backup: all your events (including ones imported from your calendar), your settings, styles and the installation identifier, and your photos and other media;
- it labels each backup with the app version, the number of events and photos, its size and your phone’s make and model, so that you can tell your backups apart;
- it runs automatically a couple of minutes after you change something, checks once a day, and also when you tap Back up now. It keeps the five most recent copies;
- it reads your Google account’s email address to show which account is in use, and stores it on your device.
On first run, if your phone has no events yet, the app offers to restore from a Drive backup. If you restore, automatic backup is switched on for that account; you can turn it off at any time in Settings.
The backup is stored by Google in your account, under Google’s privacy policy. We never receive it and cannot read it. You can delete it from Google Drive (Settings → Manage apps → Remembra → Delete hidden app data).
5.5 Android Auto Backup and device transfer (Android)
If Android backup is on for your phone, Android may include the app’s event database in Google’s backup of your device, and may copy it to a new phone when you transfer your data. Photos and settings files are not included in this kind of backup. This is part of Android and is handled by Google in your Google account; we never receive it. You control it in your phone’s settings.
5.6 The local “API & AI Agents” server (optional, Android)
Remembra includes an optional local server. It lets your own tools or AI agents on your home network read your events and add new ones. It is off by default. While you have it on:
- the app runs it as a foreground service, with a notification that stays visible;
- it listens on your local network only, at your phone’s local address on port 8787; nothing is routed through our servers;
- it uses plain HTTP, without encryption. Every request (except a simple “ping”) must carry your secret access key (a “Bearer” key). You can regenerate the key at any time, and the old one stops working at once;
- anyone holding the key can read your events, including names, dates, phone numbers, email addresses and notes, and create new events. They cannot edit or delete existing ones.
Please use it only on networks you trust, such as your home Wi-Fi, and never on public Wi-Fi. Because the connection is not encrypted, someone on the same network could intercept the key or the data. Share the key only with tools you trust, and turn the server off when you are not using it.
5.7 Exports and sharing
You can export your data to a .txt file in JSON format. The file can contain your events, settings and photos, and you save it to your phone or share it wherever you choose. You can also export events as an ICS calendar file, and save or share the cards you make. Export files are not encrypted, so keep them somewhere safe. Once you share a file, the app or service you share it with is responsible for it.
5.8 Feedback and bug reports
If you send feedback or report a bug from the app’s Settings, the app opens your own email app with a pre-filled message to us. The message includes the app version and your phone model, and a bug report also includes your Android version. You can read and change the message before sending it. When you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include.
5.9 Subscriptions and payments
Remembra starts with a 30-day free trial and then requires a monthly subscription (Remembra Premium). Without an active subscription or trial, the app opens on the subscription screen. Subscriptions are sold and billed through Google Play Billing on Android and Apple In-App Purchase on iOS. The app asks Google or Apple, on your device, whether your subscription is active. We do not receive your name, email address or payment details, and we do not keep a record of subscribers on our servers. Google and Apple process your payment under their own privacy policies.
6.The website remembra.app#
- No cookies, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.
- No third-party requests: every file, including the fonts, comes from remembra.app itself. Your browser does not contact Google Fonts, content delivery networks or social networks when you visit.
- The live demo runs entirely in your browser’s memory. Nothing you type or choose in it is stored or sent anywhere, and it is gone when you close or reload the page.
- The links to the app stores and to our social media pages take you to those services, whose own policies apply once you are there.
- As with any website, our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, including IP addresses, for a limited period for security and to operate the service.
7.Why we use data, and our lawful bases#
Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we must have a lawful basis for each use of personal data that we are responsible for:
| Purpose | Data | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Delivering the content you download in the app | IP address, language, item requested | Contract: providing the app under our Terms of Use |
| Telling the app about new versions | IP address | Legitimate interests: keeping the app working and secure |
| Keeping our servers and website secure and running | Server logs, including IP addresses | Legitimate interests: security and operating the service |
| Understanding which content is popular | Anonymous per-item download counts | Not personal data |
| Answering your emails, feedback and bug reports | Your email address, your message, app version, phone model, Android version | Legitimate interests: helping you and improving the app |
| Handling your privacy requests | Your contact details and request | Legal obligation |
Contacts, calendar, photos, notifications, exact alarms, Google Drive backup and the local server work only at your request, with the permissions you grant, and on your device or in your own Google account. We do not receive that data. You can withdraw a permission at any time in your phone’s settings, or turn the feature off in the app.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling or automated decisions, and we never sell it.
8.How long data is kept#
| Data | Where | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Events, photos, cards, settings | Your device | Until you delete them or uninstall the app |
| Google Drive backups | Your Google account | The app keeps the five most recent copies; they stay until you delete them |
| Android Auto Backup | Your Google account | As set by Google and your phone’s backup settings |
| Export files | Wherever you save them | Until you delete them |
| Server logs (app and website) | Our hosting provider | A limited period, for security and to operate the service |
| Download counts | Our servers | Kept, as they are anonymous |
| Emails you send us | Our mailbox | As long as needed to help you and deal with any follow-up, then deleted |
| Subscription and payment records | Google or Apple | As set out in their privacy policies; we hold none |
9.Who else is involved#
We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. The app includes no analytics, advertising or social-network software. The companies involved are:
- Google: Google Play (distribution, Google Play Billing, In-App Updates), Google sign-in and Google Drive for the optional backup, Android Auto Backup, and Google Calendar if you sync with it. Google Privacy Policy
- Apple: the App Store and Apple In-App Purchase on iOS. Apple Privacy Policy
- Hostinger: hosts our servers in the United Kingdom, as our processor. Hostinger Privacy Policy
- The messaging apps you choose (your SMS app, WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Telegram, Messenger): they receive only the messages you decide to send, under their own policies.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone’s safety.
10.International transfers#
Our servers are in the United Kingdom. Google and Apple may process data, such as your Drive backups, device backups and purchases, in the United States and other countries. They protect those transfers with the safeguards described in their own policies, such as the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses. We do not otherwise transfer your personal data outside the UK.
11.Security#
- The app talks to our servers and to Google over HTTPS (encrypted).
- Access to our servers is restricted. We hold no user database, so there is no store of your events, contacts or photos to breach.
- Your data on your device is protected by your phone’s own security, such as its lock screen and encryption. Please keep it locked.
- The optional local server is the exception: it uses unencrypted HTTP on your local network. Please read section 5.6.
12.Your rights#
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have it corrected if it is wrong;
- have it erased;
- restrict how we use it;
- object to our use of it, including when we rely on legitimate interests;
- receive it in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on it.
Most of your data never reaches us, so the app itself is often the quickest way to exercise these rights. You can view, change, export and delete everything in it, turn off backups, and delete your Drive backups. For anything else, email privacy@remembra.app. We will reply within one month. If a request is complex, or you send several, we may extend this by up to two further months, and we will tell you why. We may need to confirm your identity first. Because we keep no accounts and few logs, we may hold no data about you at all; if so, we will say so.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk, telephone 0303 123 1113.
13.Children#
Remembra is intended for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. Because the app has no accounts and keeps your data on your device, we would rarely hold any. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal data, for example by email, please contact privacy@remembra.app and we will delete it.
14.If you live outside the UK#
14.1 European Union and European Economic Area
If you live in the EU or EEA, the EU GDPR gives you the same rights as those in section 12, on the same lawful bases. You can also complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live or work.
14.2 United States, including California
We do not sell or “share” personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising, as those terms are defined in US state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act. Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, at privacy@remembra.app, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
15.Changes to this policy#
We will update this policy when the app or the law changes, and change the “Last updated” date above. If a change materially affects how your data is used, we will tell you in the app or on this website before it takes effect. Where the law requires your consent to a change, we will ask for it.
16.Contact us#
For any question, concern or request about your privacy, please write to us. We are happy to help.
